Abstract:Studies on Translations of Chinese Sci-Tech Classics are carried out from multi-dimensional perspectives, which has four distinctive features: (1) theoretical perspective is unbalanced; (2) western translation theories are dominant; (3) Chinese native translation theories are newly emergent; (4) theoretical construction studies are insufficient. The new book named A Study on the English Translation of Chinese Sci-Tech Classics: A Hermeneutic Approach by professor Liu Xingfeng in 2020, have makes up for the deficiency of the current research in this field. It is the first monograph to systematically study the English Translation of Chinese Sci-Tech classics from the perspective of hermeneutics. The book, based on the integration between Hermeneutics and the study on such translations, establishes a theoretical framework for studies on the English translations of Chinese Sci-Tech classics, by analyzing in detail different versions of four Chinese classics, i. e., Plain Conversation in Huang Di Nei Jing, Mo Zi, Huai Nan Zi, Brush Talks from Dream Brook. The book's contributions lie in the fact that it not only establishes a Hermeneutic approach to the study of English translation of Chinese classics of science and technology in terms of ontology, epistemology and methodology, but also expands the research fields and texts of such translation study, promotes its theoretical and practical development and systematic use of methodology.
